Sorry if this has been linked before.

Many things lead up to the boat sinking, the list would be long, but I'm linking it to show just how fast it actually goes down after taking on water.

People may think twice about the value of flotation foam after watching this, there is no time to do anything, not even to tell people what to do.

I have no idea what type of flotation this boat had, if any, but it didn’t help at all, but I’d have to say that it was either waterlogged or non-existent.

The part after the sinking is eerie, almost hard to watch.

Wow. I am guessing waterlogged flotation, or maybe they used pool noodles

At the point where the cooler started floating,... I would have let the trap go and motored up.,.. there was alot of weight on that little boat.

They did not seem very concerned at all that the boat was filling up until it was too late.

It seemed strange almost like they ignored that fact their boat was filling up with water.

I wonder what they were thinking with the cooler floating, and still hauling in the crab pot  Maybe they had done it many times before and lucked out?

I was a bit confused as to what type of fish those really long skinny ones were, until I realized they were zip-ties...

I also thought the white things were some kind of eel until I realized they were zip ties. The whole thing is so crazy.

I couldn't tell, but did the line to the pot get wrapped on the prop?

Yep let the pot go get it turned into the waves and get the water out asap ... You could always get the pot later .. I was cringing at every pot .. Anyone see a bilge pump working ?

Yeah she had a half gallon bailer bucket when it was too late.

Splashwell was filled with gear blocking the drain tubes so the water began filling the bilge and no pump either that I saw discharging. No bilge pump is the big problem when taking on water but being swamped over due to stern weight no amount of pumps handle that.

Not enough water coming over the transom to be of a concern.
I'd put good money on a below the water level hull breach. A thru hull failure would be my guess.

Gee, I thought the boat had too heavy of a motor, an inadequate splashwell, was overloaded with gear and had too many people on board. Probably if the splashwell was a bit larger, the boat doesn't sink. The captain also let the flooding get too far along before he noticed it.

Clearly the boat had no floatation or waterlogged floatation. It was a bit small for the purpose it was being used. It looked to be 18 feet or shorter.

I know what kind of flotation the boat had . . . NONE

I assume that was a GoPro camera that took these videos.

I do hope the folks onboard were OK. I assume by the woman wearing a winter coat and hat that is was a bit on the cold side.

Pot was pulling the stern under in rough seas, once that water starts coming over the stern it continues to force it down and fast. No amount of flotation was going to save that boat the way the water was forcing the stern down. This is why the safety experts preach about not anchoring off the stern of any boat, especially outboards with their lower cutout transom. Once it starts your only chance is hard on the throttle and cross your fingers !!!

I thought that also. The cooler was floating at 8 minutes. And calling for lifejackets when you're actually sinking isn't going to help a lot. Why didn't he turn and face the pot with the bow? It reminded me of the scene from "Jaws" when the great white was pulling the boat backwards..............I think they need a bigger boat too!
