Get the book! Get the book! Get the book!

Actually you need a timing light. at the top of the motor is a flywheel when you advance the throttle it also move a piece near the flywheel. You move the rods near the flywheel to adjust the timeing.

just no start really, i think its the carbs but i set them to the specs, i GOT THE FU*KING book, although i know message boards were put here to help people along. not just say get the book. anyway its a no start. i rebuilt the carbs. i can get it to start if i spray some gas into the intakes. but now i messed with the timing screw cause it was revving into the 3000 range so i figured retarding the timing would help but it didnt i know what i have to set it at now but i dont know the exact local on the flywheel of what i am looking for. i know the specs but cant figure the phyisical part out.

Re: how to set timing on these things.

I have an 85hp Force Prestolite ignition. I will tell you what I did for timing. I found TDC for every cylinder and marked it on the flywheel (line them up with the mark on your intake). Get a timing light and check each cylinder. This is to make sure you don't have any wires crossed from your trigger. Now for advanced timing your book should tell you what it is at WOT BTDC. For example mine is #1 cylinder 28 degrees BTDC WOT. Check timing with cranking not starting. When you messed with the timing, did you adjust on the tower or at the trigger?

I forgot to mention. There should be a mark on your flywheel for WOT, at least mine does.

If you don't understand my explanation, just say so and I will go into further detail.

Are you asking what/where the trigger is? If so, it is under the flywheel and it tells which cd/coil to fire and when to fire.

Re: how to set timing on these things.

There is no "timing screw". The timing is adjusted as Realgun told you.

If you have an idle problem, adjust the idle.

The timing adjust moves the plate into which the trgger coils are potted in place. By moving the base plate the timing changes. The triggers are the timing.

Boater Dude, instead of ranting, sit down and read the book until you understand how the system is suppose to work. Then we can help you.

I know what you are going through Boater Dude. I am sure it is something really small and stupid. My motor acted the same way and come to find out the famous book everyone is talking about has the color codes wrong coming from the trigger to the cd's. I eventually figured it out on my own. Have patience and you will figure it out.
