How to rermove flywheel

How do I go about removing a flywheel from an 1957 18hp Johnson, what having trouble with the motor not having no power and when I took the carb of I decided to check the coils and they are both shot. Any info and what tools are needed would be greatly appreciated

The flywheel has 3 tapped holes in it to use a three bolt puller.The holes may be under a cover held down by the flywheel nut.Don't know the torque spec,but retorque the nut to spec,or you'll break flywheel keys.<br />DHP

IF your having trouble getting the nut off, take it to a gas station and ask them to use an impact gun on it for yu, that's what i needed.<br />no need to hold flywheel with that.

Alien, the tourqe specs for flywheel nut is 480-540 in./lbs. Let me add, when I pull a F/W I keep the nut on the crank, just at the edge. That way if you have to hit the puller you take a less of a chance of mushrooming the crank threads with the nut in place.
