Re: how to remove a foot? impeller???

First of all, a manual really helps with diagrams to show what is being explained, but i will try on here. First of all disconnect the battery, drain the lower unit oil, and remove the prop. Disconnect shift rod connector from bellcrank (This is where the pics come in handy.) Mark gearcase and adjustable trim tab so it can be re installed in same position. Remove screw and trim tab. Using 5/8 thin wall socket, remove countersunk screw. Using 1/2 inch socket and short extension, remove screw from inside of trim tab cavity. Remove four screws holding lu (2 port 2 starboard). Remove gearcase assembly from exhaust housing, being careful not to bend shift rod.

To change the impeller, remove impeller housing screws and slide off driveshaft. Remove impeller drive key and impeller plate, and impeller. Assemble impeller liner plate to impeller housing. Insert impeller liner. Apply OMC adhesive M or gasket sealing compound to seal groove in impeller housing. Press seal into groove. Apply adhesive to bottom edge of impeller plate and install plate. Insert impeller drive key in drive shaft. Install impeller over driveshaft. Oil the impeller blades and rotate driveshaft clockwise while sliding housing over impeller. Secure pump housing with screws dipped in OMC Gasket sealing compound and tighten. Install new grommet on impeller housing cover. DOnt adjust the shift rod, tolerances are small. Grease splines on driveshaft and reassemble. When re filling lu oil, be sure to replace vent and drain screw gaskets. The toughest part will be re assembling the drive shaft. GL

The 1972 100hp is Hydro-Electric shift. Instead of a shift rod to disconnect, you have an electric cable to disconnect. As I remember it, it's a pair of blue and green wires at the rear of the powerhead. Tie something onto them before dropping the lower unit, to aid in getting them back up in there during reinstallation.
