How to ID a 225 timer base?

On a Johnson 225 is there a way to tell if I have a 1986-1987 timer base vs. a 1988+ timer base?

model # of the motor.

The motor is a "frankeinsten" model, it has parts from all different years.

If I remember correctly, the '86-87 motors did not have QuickStart features so the timer base for them would only have 7 wires total on the connectors.

The '88 and later models with QuickStart would have 8 or 9 wires.

The funny thing is we were running a 1987 style flywheel with the newer style timer base... it didn't start very well but it ran okay for several years at least (until the engine blew up).

The engine blew up because you were running the motor with the timing too advanced you burnt the tops of your pistons
