how to find the year of my engine

i have a 70 horsepower vro inline 3 cylinder evinrude and would like to know the year as i need to find a rebuild kit i couldnt find a year on it any where but got a serial number from the mount that goes on the boat but as im writing this i dont have it on me i will get it later tonight thanks for any help.

Yes we need the model number off the plate on the transom bracket.

Older engines have a two part number, first part is the model number. Later ones have separate model and serial numbers. (Yours will be the later type if its a VRO)

Tell us the numbers and all will be explained
(actually will probably be mostly letters, E70 then a series of letters .

Ignore the last letter. the previous two will give the year according to the "INTRODUCES" Code where I =1 N = 2 etc .... E= 9 and S = 0.

ok the numbers are
model number E7otlco

serial number G1053387 and it is a vro greyish blue engine

E70TLCO

E= Evinrude
70 = 70 hp
T = Tilt and trim .. electric start
L = Long shaft (20")
CO = 1985

Followed by S ? has no significance anyway

It is an Evinrude
