Bolts broke when I attempted to replace my tilt/trim motor, so I removed the entire assembly. Now that it's all put back together, I've put everything back together. While the assembly was off and I was repairing broken bolts and getting it all fixed, all of the fluid leaked out all over the garage floor. So now, I have the motor lifted all the way up and on the little "leg" that holds it up, and the "plungers" of the tilt/trim assembly are all of the way down. How do I fill the unit with fluid now to get it to start working. The motore works fine, but I need to fill with fluid to get things moing. The tiny hole to fill the overflow tank is absurd on these motors. How do I fill it up? Again, I hear the motor working just fine, but there's no fluid, so it's not able to do anything.

Ideally, you would have filled and bleed it on the bench. Now you’re stuck bleeding on the boat which can be a pain.

I use a small funnel with flexible nozzle to fill. They make “squirt” tops that screw on the fluid bottles as well.

The shop manual will give instruction of how to bled.

Fill the reservoir as best you can. Put the cap on. Run the motor down and then back up. You might need to give it a helping hand. When it is back up remove the cap. Add fluid if needed. Repeat until such time as the reservoir is full and will take no more fluid.

Thanks, but the motor is all the way down. No fluid in the system. All 3 pistons are all the way down. All I can fill is the upper overflow tank. Will that eventually make it to the pump somehow? I feel like I am causing problems by running the pump dry.

Lift the motor all the up manually. Using the relief valve.

Open the valve. Pull the motor all the way up. Use the locking device. Close the valve. Add fluid to the reservoir.

Leave the motor locked up mechanically. You might try disconnecting the tilt piston connection from the motor. Push down on it while pressing the down trim button. Get it and the trim pistons to retract. Pushing if necessary. Add fluid. Press the up tilt button to fully extend all cylinders. Repeat as necessary until all air has been purged and the system is completely refilled.

or take back apart and fill it as you put it back together like the service manuals calls for
