I'm all about rescueing a dog from a shelter, even with the health risks of larger breeds of hip dysplacia and eye clarity. All dogs are good dogs when raised in a loving home. We however went with a breeder simply to avoid as many of the health issues as possible, (yeah that's a lot selfish) but we've been through the heartache of losing a much loved animal too early. Our breeder just moved to the NY area should you have an interest in champion level English labs.

go rent the movie Marley and me. actually I think you made the right choice by letting her "win" for now. maybe it's not the righttime for it, if she's in school and lots of pressure. better to both want a dog rather then one gets bamboozled into it.

My g/f loves dogs and grew up with a black lab and I want to try to convince her to buy into the idea of getting a dog (prefer a lab). We got two cats, but they aren't so great when it comes to doing activities. Want a dog for jogging, cross-country skiing, going on the boat and overall companionship. I like my cats and they are great for hanging out, but if my cat didn't ADD on us when we go for walks and we have to go very slow for him. Any suggestions?

You have the G/f for companionship, she must go on the boat, jog and go cross country skiing too.

Get what you want. Bring it home. If she doesn't like it tell her "too bad" or kick her butt to the curb.

She likes all of them, though she prefers to walk a lot, instead of "jogging".

Another thread got me thinking...every time I disregarded her opinion in a situation that I have put a lot of thought, she always changes her opinion after I get that thing. She didn't want me to get a boat and I did, she loves it now. My parents were oddly for me getting a boat, though they don't like the idea about pets.

Mrs. DJ and I love Dogs. We had to put down our last Black Lab. several years ago. It was a VERY bad day.

We've talked about getting another but; we are both gone all day, almost every day. SO, it would NOT be fair to another animal to leave them couped up all day.

I don't think enough people think about that when choosing another pet. A fish or a Hamster is one thing. A Dog is another.

As others have suggested,maybe now isnt the right time for it.Maybe soon though.Dogs do require alot of attention,esp. puppys.Ive known people who put them in plastic dog kennels,inside while they work 8 hrs.I think thats wrong.My dogs have a big fenced backyard and heated/cooled doghouse and practically live outside.They watch the house while I and my wife work.We let them in in the evening and weekends,If they want too!
