On my 1982 Johnson OB 7.5 HP (model J8BALCHR), made then in Belgium, it is possible to install remote control. For this is needed the remote control kit accessory 7.5 (original partnumber 0173973) and the steering adapter kit (no. 0173972).
No surprise if I tell you that these 2 kits are no longer available thru my local Johnson/Evinrude dealer in France where I live.
I have seen the parts list and an exploded view of the parts involved on the BRP site, but impossible to devise how these parts are built into the motor compartment (port side, starboard side? Transfer linkage?).
It would be great if someone has a photo of a Johnson (or Evinrude) 7.5 engine with the remote control parts in situ (connection to carburator handle and to the remote cable) or the installation notice.. Even nicer would be if someone has the 2 kits for sale....
Thank you for any help with photos, diagrams, or instruction notices. Alternative suggestions are also welcome. For clarity: The connection to the shift gear and the steering connection is NOT a problem, only the gaz linkage is, and yes I do have the workshop manual for this model, but the accesories are not covered in here.
Thanks for any help.

Those parts are also not available in the USA. I haven't seen one set up for remote running. The steering's easy, but, as you say, the throttle is more complicated.

Thanks CATransplant for your quick info.
However, question is now: are the parts not available in the USA now, or were they never available ?
Thanks

Re: how to connect remote control Johnson 7.5

I'm sure they were available at one time. However, your outboard is now 26 years old. There was probably a limited supply of those parts, which is now gone. There's too little demand to make more of them at this point.

It's a problem shared by many older outboards. Commonly needed parts continue to be available, and new ones are made, as needed. However, few people desire to use those 7.5 hp outboards with remote controls, so once the stock of those kits were sold, no more were made.

I'm afraid you will have to look at used parts suppliers for your needs on this. I don't know the situation with regard to that in your country.

Another possibility is to look for the equivalent parts for later models of that basic engine design. I believe your 7.5 is based on the same platform as the 6 and 8 hp models from Johnson and Evinrude. Those were made, with the same basic design of throttle, shifter, and steering, through 1990. After that, the tiller and shift mechanisms were redesigned, so parts from the 1992 and later versions would not work with your outboard motor.
