That's it in a nutshell. :)

I'll add my hint: It's easier to back towards the driver's side if you have the choice because you can see the trailer in the outside mirror.

Bottom of the wheel top of the wheel, Phooooey !!

Triton II has the easiest way to learn.
Look in the mirrors or out the back window if trailer/boat is small and narrow.
If the trailer starts to drift in one direction, turn the steering wheel on that direction to straighten it out.

Make the correction as soon as you see the trailer start drifting.

Tip: Get the trailer and tow vehicle in as close to a straight line, and lined up, before you start backing.

Don't be afraid to pull ahead and straighten things out. Or don't be embarrassed to stop, get out and look, to be sure you are not going to hit anything.

Re: how to back up a boat trailer ?

Lots of good advice already. I had to learn this recently despite not being new to boating (downsized from a larger boat). So a bit of advice while it is still fresh in my mind:

1. You have to practice this. I read a ton and still did not get a feel for it until I tried it. I say it took 4 tries before I became comfortable with it.

2. I would try to overcorrect and then get into a mess. As mentioned before, slight steering input is all that is needed.

3. Don't be afraid to pull forward if you get in a mess. It can correct the situation far better that steering input going back, especially if you have the car at odd angle to the trailer due to oversteering.

4. Find a line or landmark that tells you where you should start from as you pull forward.

5. Don't be shy to ask for help as mentioned. Someone helped me on my first try and that was nice.

6. Holding the bottom of the steering wheel did not work for me. Your mileage may vary.

Overall, I consider it a lot easier than learning to dock. You have a nice thing called a "brake" with a trailer :) .

Amir

Well, all of this is good, but I have a few selected,
1. Hold onto the bottom of the steering wheel.
2. I find it good to use an outside lane (close to dock, so you can use the dock as a guide for going straight back.
Thats all i've got to say
