The little chain that holds the gas tank cap to the boat when refilling detached right where the screw attaches chain to little piece of metal about 4 inches inside throat of gas fill line. Anybody have a good solution to reattach? I suppose that the screw fell into tank, any great concern?
Thanks

I wouldn't be too concerned about the screw; it should settle to the bottom of the tank and mind it's own business.

You'll probably have to remove the gas fill fitting from the boat to reattach the chain. You might be able to use a new screw or a rivet. If you go to a marine supply store you might be able to examine a new one to see how the chain is attached.

Do you still have the little Eyelet thingy at the end of the chain ?

Can you even reach where the bolt came out of the neck ( could you possibly put another one in there by hand ).

Its probably a #10-24 x 1/2-3/4" SS bolt that came out.

IF you can reach with your fingers where the bolt came out .. then you can dry fit another bolt. If it screws in .. then put in the eye of the chain end and then put some Loc-tite on the threads and screw it in by hand. You will not need a screw driver.

YD.

PS. Oh yea.. this might be a good time to buy an extra fuel cap and stash it on your boat just in case one of those fuel dock guys puts it in the drink ;) .
