How should i go about trading my motor for something smaller?

I have 1967 sears runabout boat and it is rated for a 45 hp right now. I have a 50 hp 1974 evinerude sizzler on it and I believe its a long shaft and it seems to be to heavy for my boat and maybe to powerful for it too.

I'm not sure what I would need to make it powerfull enough. I've heard 45 hp are hard to find and 50 hp shouldn't be much heavier than the 45 hp.

Im wondering if anybody in the Memphis area would know of a place to trade for something smaller. I have all the conltols and key for it which work great.

It does look like a long shaft(20 inch) and your boat looks like it has a 15 inch transom. Could you post a pic taken from a lower position from the side

Well I would suggest keeping the motor and raising it up a bit. You have two options........ rebuild the transom to accommodate a 20" shaft motor (which is the "common" size) or use a lift bracket similar to what one of our previous poster did as seen in these pictures.

It put the motor at the correct height in relation to the boats keel/hull.
