Re: how not to launch

Cute.

Trailer backing is 3 real easy steps:

1. Hand on bottom of steeringwheel

2. Eyes in drivers rear view mirror (glancing around occasionally for safety)

3. Focus your attention on nothing else but the rear of the boat/trailer and drive it (the rear).....forget everything else.

Works great

looked like a single axle. I'm surprised he was able to drive the trailer up the ramp like that without dragging.

he asked, 'did you forget to take the straps off'. who's the captain of the boat. captain suppose to make sure everything is right before casting off. all the more reason for using a locking reciever pin. funny video.

On Dance's 2007 shows there is a video of him leaving the straps on and he fills the back of the boat with water. Looks like the same boat. Maybe he was out making more blooper videos to sell and just kept trying to screw up as many times as possible.

yep, but i know some here that can back a trailer better than most men. i know a couple all he does is back the boat off the trailer, and to the dock. She says it's HER boat.

Agree with that one. The ladies around here are either amazing or useless at backing the trailer. (Mind you its the same with the guys too !!!!)

Re: how not to launch

Dee, I have seen campers rigged that way.

The problem as I see it is that you have to disconnect and reconnect your trailer to your towing vehicle. Attempting this alone, or for large boats, or sloping parking lots could get a little testy and seems to be more trouble than taking a few stabs at regular launching.

First hand experience. Next door neighbor's daughter was trying to back her trailer in the yard. She must have stabbed at it 20 times. I showed her how I do it (as posted above) and she got it right the very next time.

dj, i've had several vehicles, with a hitch on the front. never used it to launch though. but it's great when moving around the storage lot, or if you store your boat in the back yard, have a curved driveway. i learned to back a trailer at 13 y/o 45 years ago.

Re: how not to launch

The first time I launched my first boat, a really old scow with an older outboard. I had all sorts of trouble, from lining up at the launch to forgetting to remove my transom saver. It was a disaster, but the ramp wasn't crowded, so I took my time and got the boat launched, finally.

There was one other boater there, laughing his butt off at me and making smartass remarks. I didn't appreciate it all that much, but I just shrugged it off.

Later that day, out on the lake, the same guy was drifting in the water and waved me down. Ran out of gas on the lake.

It was fun to tow him back to the dock with my crummy boat that I'd had so much trouble launching. I never said a word.
