Britt,
If you want some Help from us,
You've got to be Freer with your Info.........
It took 3 posts on your last thread to find out WHAT motor you have........
This post could have been added to your other thread, as it's All about the Same Problem.......
One or two sentence posts are Not going to get you much Help.....
The Only way We can give you a hand is with Total,+ Complete Info about, Not Only the Problem at hand, But the Boat,+ Engine,+ Drive that We're Talking About.............

Now,
Not only is there water in cylinders 3 & 5
Probably an Exhaust Issue.........
Manifold ???
Riser ?????
Static Height ????
They have done a Compression check
So WHAT were the #s ????????
Mech said that this rebuild is screwed.
Could you be Much More Specific ............
Is this Mech playing me?
Could Be.............
At this point,
I Feel You're Playing with Us................

Re: NOW no Compression

I'm not playing with anyone. I've taken this boat(1999 Trophy) in for the same problem 3 times and every time I get the same answer. "Engines toast".
It s' got water in Cylinders 3 & 5 and the manifold and the risors have been checked. Both I've been told are fine.????
Now The Mech wants to Pull the Heads off fix those and He said that should fix it.
Well!!! How can I have any faith in this guy when the last two said the same thing??
So now I come here looking for HELP. Not to play anyone.

Re: NOW no Compression

you asked,"how does this happen"?/?

:D heres a previous post you may have passed up;

Originally posted by brownies:
Just my luck.
Engine block froze and cracked during the winter. I never knew it and 1st time out on the lake, it ran fine for awhile. Then it began to knock. I had spun a rod way way away from anywhere due to water mixing with the oil from that crack. I tried to limp it home, but, when you spin a rod bearing, small metal particles from this circulate throught the oil and before long...I had spun several rods. Due to all this abnormal friction, engine behan to overheat. (weak water pump, stuck thermostat, water passage restrictions could had something to do with it also).
This overheating caused the cylinder head to crack and probably blew the head gasket as well.
This in turn let water into a cylinder and on top of a piston which proceeded to hydraulic this cylinder.
One piston coming to an abrubt halt like that would have been considered devastating....but, I still had three more that were wanting to "GO GO GO".
This BROKE the siezed connection rod which ripped a hole in the edge of my oil pan while a small piece went through the side of the engine block.
Still going strong...errr...well, it was moving a bit faster than the cloud of smoke following me.
I never knew when the lifters came apart, bending the pushrods and sending one through the valve cover. That was just a bonus at this point.
What you should learn from this is: NO BOAT IS COMPLETE WITHOUT A PADDLE.

Re: NOW no Compression

This was a newly rebuilt engine that was winterized. It was only on the water for the second time since the engine had been replaced.
How does a valve stick down and stay down damaging a piston in a new engine? It's happened twice now in this boat.

Re: NOW no Compression

just a guess as their are too many possibilities to cover.
1) SLOPPY machine work, manual or robitic, on the heads during manufacturing.
2) flaw indiginious to the design.
3) inferior quality of the parts.
4) clearences too tight.
5) over revvvvvvvving.
6) not breaking in the re-build correctly.
7) no oil. wrong oil.
8) incorrect instalation by a compentent or
un-compentent mechanic.
9) and the list goes on and on, but my favorite quote to my teenage son, "sounds like a loose nut behind the wheel"

Is this still under a warranty? sl
