How much should I pay for 1959 Evinrude 35hp??

I am curious how much I should pay for this 59 big twin 35? Its got clear title, second owner. BUT it hasnt been used in about 15 years. HOWEVER owner states he fired it last year and compression is good and equal. Comes with everything in photo and original manual.

There seems to be a picture problem with the forum. Nobody's show up. Anyhoo, the question is very difficult to answer. Besides, a lot depends on location. But you can assume it is going to take some money to get it operational and dependable. The fact that it hasn't been used in 15 years may be a good sign. At least it hasn't been being tortured and worn out during that time. But it will need new coils, water pump, and fuel system service at the very LEAST. Personally, I wouldn't give over $100 for a complete one in decent, unrestored, condition.

UM.......is it manual start (not electric)? Unless you are specifically looking for a manual start for some reason, that is a dis-advantage.

Well it comes with 4 gas tanks, steering controls and throttle/ remote etc. Its clean has good original paint and owner said it will run as it but hasn't been used in a long time. Has bronze prop etc. He is asking $1550 so if your saying $100 bux then I guess he is way out of line,

If I had one of those and went through ignition, carb, waterpump, and gearcase seals so it was running perfectly and in good cosmetic condition - and then was looking to sell, I would price it at $800 - 900 max w/controls and extra tanks. I'd probably be sitting on it for awhile at that price here in Minn. And he wants $1550 for one that's been sitting 15yrs??

For $1500 you can buy several of them, AND put the money into one of them to bring it up to snuff (keeping the others for parts), AND have money leftover to fill and refill your gas tanks several times over.

Bought a 57 Javelin 35 HP for $150 couple of years ago.--A low hours electric start motor.-Desireable collecter motor .--Cowling alone is worth / gets more than what I paid for the motor.----At $1500. he is dreaming unless it comes with a 2 year warranty , parts and labour.

I do full mechanicals on the ones that I sell, from top to bottom. I usually only get around 350 to 400 for them. If it was a FULL, proper restoration, might not be out of line, but not for what you are getting. I would say 100 to 150 for a sitting motor that needs full mechanicals. Unless the thing is mint, then more, but not for an average motor. I try to get them for 100, and I put about 150 in parts into them, sometimes more.

I'll bet you can find your dream motor if you widen your search. If you haven't already, check out the Antique Outboard Motor Club. There is one coming up in NC. If you want to combine a vacation, go to the Constantine or Tomahawk meets. Title shouldn't be a problem if you "import" one from another state......or am I mistaken? Most states don't title outboards.

Can you buy the motor "out of state" and bring it into SC? Must be an avenue for accomplishing that, to title an unregistered motor.

Look in NC, motors are not titled here. With a bill of sale you should be able to title it in SC. Most likely he knows that neighboring states do not title motors, therefore he is charging for the title. Spend the extra gas money and go to a non-title state. You will be much cheaper in the long run and probably get a better motor.

This guy has come down to $800 on it but doesn't look like he is going to go any lower. It really looks like its in mint shape and doesnt need a restoration besides maybe carbs rebuilt, ignition overhaul, water pump, etc and probably a seal kit put in the lower unit. Even tho you guys say its only worth a couple hundred I offered the guy $600 just on its good looks alone.. He shot me down. I thought I was standing tall at $600. He came down to $800 but I just cant justify it even if it is this clean knowing i have to do work to it.
