Hi, I am thinking about buying this boat. How much do you think it is worth? I know it depends on a lot of factors, but maybe you can give me just a ball-park figure because I have no idea.

It is a 1988 21-foot center-console. Boat is supposedly in excellent condition. Has power trim tabs, seats. Comes with trailer, but no motor. Also, he has no title on the boat. See image below. I have not seen the boat but I will go look at it soon.

Thanks for your help.

I'll tell you how much the boat is worth if you will finish the story you started about the two missing spark plugs!

haha, Willyclay, unbelievably, I still haven't figured that out. It's possible someone stole 2 of the 4 plugs one night like people suggested. I will try to figure it out once the weather warms up and I can take it back out to the lake.

You may be able to get an idea on price by looking in the NADA. Subtract the price of the motor from the price of the boat-motor combo, and then cut price by 25%, since it has no motor.

Ok, NADA says:

--------------------------------------------
Boats and Personal Watercraft
Length: 21'
Model Name/Description: 210 CCF
Boat Type: Outboard Boats
Hull Material: Fiberglass

Beam: 8'
Engine: N/A
Net Weight: 2100
-------------------------------
Base Price
Low Retail: $2,170 Average Retail: $2,430
Options
Power Boat: MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
T-Tops w/Canvas $870 $990
TOTAL PRICE Low Retail: $3,040 Average Retail: $3,420
--------------------------------------------------------------

It doesn't say whether the NADA price includes the trailer. Think that does or not?

I did find a 21-foot 1988 Chris Craft center console (no motor) on Boattrader for $4500 and a 21-foot 1988 Robalo center console (no motor) for $3500.

Is the "no title" thing a big issue?

Depends on where you are, Incovert.

In Texas you can't register it without a title.

if i remember you are in Florida, is the boat in FL? if so he needs to get the title, before selling. if the boats is out of state, Georgia, etc, that does not title boats. you need a bill of sale, and registration number. trying to register a Fl boat with out a title is almost impossible. i've had to register many as homemade. no title in Fl 1/2 price, they are considered stolen.

It is in Florida. So, boats without a title in Florida are useless? Must be parted out? That seems like a huge waste.

you have to find the last registered owner, or legal heir, and get them to get a duplicate title, then sign it over to you. or lie and register it homemade.

I'm still trying to by and antique Chris Craft, and can't get title to it. but what i'm doing involves a lot more money.

Without a title it's value is ZERO dollars.

Just messing with you because it was such a great story and so many people are still waiting on the next installment. Listen to the experts like TD and you can't go wrong. Good luck!

DO NOT WORRY about the "title", many get lost and you go to DMV, tell them that, and with the proper info, you get a re-issue title.

With a lost title you must find the person it was registered to last and have a signed and notarized document from them or they will have to file for lost title.
Not easy as TD stated,I have been through the same thing a couple times.

If it was that easy that would be nice! That would make it real easy to register a stolen boat.Thats why some states have really got strict.

That might be true in your state but not all states. I have a trailer that I cant register. The owner is dead and the GA DMV wont move a finger unless the dead owner request the paperwork or whoever inherit the trailer can prove it was inherited to them and have all kinda of paperwork. They wont register it as homemade either as in NC they inspect the trailers before registering home made ones.
As far as the boat, they would not register and title it for me if I did not have the bill of sale and the GA registration card.

Inconvert, Iwould not buy the boat unless I can go to whoever does the registration in your state, take all the paperwork and make sure I can register it that way. Also take names. I was told in the phone I could register the trailer by the DMV employee. Once I showed up they said no and nobody knew who answered my call, of course...

My experience is that trailers are pretty much a free proposition when bundled with a boat sale. Great if you're buying -- kinda sucks if you're selling.

Re: How much is this boat worth? 21-foot CC

Gary, I have a friend that has been towing for about 5 or 6 years without license plate. Since in SC the tags/registration of small trailers is optional I think the police here dont go around looking for them tags. Actually, it was this past october when I brought it to his attention. He never thought about it. Now he is living in a lake so he dont tow much anymore. If it were me, living 6 miles from the lake, will get caught every single time! LOL
Sorry for the hijack...

This is what the guy told me:

"You can get tag agency to get in touch with title holder, this has got a clean title,I do not know who."

I guess I'll ask them first and make sure they will do that.

Re: How much is this boat worth? 21-foot CC

you tell the seller, if he wants to sell it to get a clear title in his name. not the name of the previous owner. the tag agency, is not going to try to contact anyone. all they are going to do is enter the info into their computer, and collect your money. Florida is one of the strickest states on boat transfers, due to all the boat theft in the state. i know as i have been fighting the system for many years, trying to get some things changed, making registering old (abandoned) boats easier to register.
