how much is enough

i have been scraping glue off of my 97 smoker craft and what ever kindof glue they used is tough how much needs to come off before i can relay carpet?

I would think just enough to make the surface smooth enough so that the old glue beads wont show through the new carpet. Check your glue can to see if it recommends something specific.

I've used lacquer thinner to soften old glue and scrap it up with a putty knife. Not a plesant task anyway you look at it.

And like Drewp. said.....you mostly want to get it smooth enough that it doesn't show thru the new carpet.....and of course make sure there is no loose pieces under the carpet either.

here is the tool Im using. it works good.
You can get both hands on it and the blades are replaceable.
Its actually a 2 sided blade so you can flip it and use it again before you need to replace it.
its that other tool beyond the hammer in the picture with the black handle and black knob on it.
the right side of the picture is scraped, the other side is not.
That should give you an idea of how much needs scraped.
