Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

By the way where you buy your soda and beer at? lol I think the most of my money is spent on the beer
I live in El Salvador, and beer is cheap here:D. Around $5 for a beer six pack and about $3 for a soda six pack!

You live in New York, it's the most expensive state I've ever visited. $25 for a Rum & coke in a Manhattan pub back in 2002:eek::eek:

Somethings here are really cheap!

Don't forget to factor in...
Gas- 40
Food- 20
Ramp Fee's- 6
Tow vehicle gas- 40
Bait?
Beer/liquor? 20
Cigarettes? 8
Bags of ice? 10

so i guess $144 for a day on the river where the ramp is 15miles away and only ride on the boat for about 45-60min. my wife would go nuts if she figured it all up, since we go every weekend that is $567 a month. its worth it though.

Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

I live about 1 mile from lake Ontario but maybe 2.5miles from the launch. so...
Gas for the day(5-8 hours on the water): $20 (probably more like $10 as I fish with the motor off most of the time)
Launch fee: $5
Food: The same amount as I would spend at home, gotta eat either way!
Lost lures: $5-10

Because I don't count food as an added expense I honestly spend less than $30 when I go out. I couldn't afford to boat if I had to shell out as much as you guys every time I went out.

P.S. before kids I went out "AT LEAST" once a week. Now I shoot for once a month. Can't wait until the kids are just a little older so I can get back to boating every week (hard with a 5 month old and a 2 year old)

Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

good thing I live close to the lakes and am happy just anchoring in an out of the way hole.
so here is the breakdown for an overnight trip.
gas-- depending on which lake I go to 2.00 to 5.00 (boat and truck)
minnows-- a little over 2.00
everything else is going to be consumed whether I'm on the boat or watching tv

@ 2.60 per gal gas. boat 260.00
2 stroke oil 2 1/2 gal 45.00
gas additive 12.00
chum, 6 blocks 50.00
2 boxes squid 12.00
2 boxes cigar minnows 15.00
6 bags ice 15.00
food 15.00
non acoh beverages 15.00
ramp fee 10.00
bridge toll 6.00
truck gas 15.00

About $470.00 depending on how much fuel and oil I have left from last trip!
that's for a off shore 70 ml trip with bottom bumping and trolling. shorter trip not so much

VRBO.com I got a 2x2 in Gulf Shores Alabama for 95 a nite with 75 clean fee. We had our own boat slip w/ this house. My family does this for 700 for 4 days. We shp at walmart, eat our catch (about 120 lbs of red snapper), 200 in gas . Thats with towing 200 miles, and 5 miles off shore.

Seeing my wife pull up a 20lb red snapper----priceless.

Gas $90
Food $45
Ramp Fee's $25
Tow vehicle gas $25
Bait? $0
Beer/liquor? $5 (not heavy drinkers)
Cigarettes? $0
Bags of ice? $0 (fridge on board)

So under $200 for a whole day of fun for up to ten people. Less per day (but more per person) if we spend the night on the hook. Of course, if we take a crowd, we rarely pay for the ramp or food.

Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

I'll factor in the direct expenses. We usually go out for the weekend and anchor out overnight. So, food, booze, etc are the same as it would cost being at home.
The average trip is about 40 gallons of gas divided up between tow vehicle, boat, genny, and dingy outboard.
One place is only 70 total miles trailering, but 60 miles on the water. Tows at 8 MPG, and boat about 2 MPG.
Another place is 160 miles tow total, and 20 miles boat. cost is about same.
Now, out club is going to the Englewood area for teh 4th. Tow is 360 miles, boat is about 20 gallons, marina is about 100 for two nights. With the other small stuff, this is a quarter grand cruise. Oh, yes, the 180 Mi drive each way is about 3 hr. I opted out.
I do like that cruise, however, my company downsized me 2 months ago. Although I watch expenses, still go on "local" cruises.

Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

we usually get a hotel for sat night and spend the weekend out there. this is what i figured up:

$110-hotel
$20-boat slip for the night
$100-gas for truck and boat
$100-food, drinks, ice

so, roughly $350 and that leaves $20 for fast food or whatever may come up. The only reason we do it that way is because my buddy usually splits the hotel room and gas with me so its not so bad. and the kids can sleep in the a/c.

sometimes we do day trips, those are easily under $200 just for one day.

Redone - Do you spend that at the lake?

Gas is the biggest factor in my case. I spend about 60 or 80 if I stay local and up to 120 when going to the other non local lakes we frequent.

I've learned not to count how much any of my hobbies/passions cost.

Why bother, it's worth it.

I put in $50 a month and go out every weekend multiple times. However ramp is A mile down the road and I only go out about a mile or two on the water...

A few bucks for my own food, the passenger ALWAYS brings the beer and drinks....:)

You gotta factor in the cost of the boat, trailer and maintenance into all of this, not just consumables. And if you're fishing, the cost of the gear. Add in the extra cost of the tow vehicle, if it's not something you'd be driving if you didn't have a boat to tow.

I find it better not to think of these things.......

Seems to me some of you are making this more complicated than what the OP asked. Simply put, when a bulb goes in your head that say "let's go boat!" What is what you spend? Boat, permanent slip and such you have to pay whatever you boat or not...

Re: How much does it cost you per boat trip?

This is a very good thread. I would have to say my expenses are as follows:

If I have to gas up the Expedition: $70
Gas in the boat: $20
Beer: $30
Drinks: $20
Food: $20
Ice: $5

Total: $165 or $95, but that's for the entire weekend, 2 days worth

Of course if there are passengers, I have to see cash before they board. . .
