Hello there,
Can someone tell me does my mariner bigfoot 2 stroke made 2004 bought 2006 need a specific depth of water to work as when I enter water of maybe 3/4 feet etc I cuts out. It has sufficient water intake as the intake is below the water level. Thanks
P.s Any idea how much a canvas cover is for 16 foot (stand up height).

Depth of water except for the water intake should not have any effect on the operation of an engine.

If it idles on cuffs and doesn't idle when in the lake at anything reasonable, would indicate plugged exhaust relief. There should be a sputter of exhaust and cooling spray above the water line. If it's plugged, then when you immerse the prop hub, the back pressure will kill the engine.

If you're talking about it starting when tilted up, and dying when you tilt it down, it could be a tilt (wiring, usually) issue and not water at all.

hope it helps

your motor will turn on in any debt of water. however you must have the motor in the water so it can be cooled. properly.

you NEVER want to run in very shallow water. you risk sucking mud/sand into your cooling system for your motor and if it clogs, then your motor can over heat and destroy your motor.

never EVER turn your motor on with out some sorce of water going to it!

also a bimini top for a 16 foot boat(used) is around 250-450

and if you are tilting your motor up out of the water while its running and it shuts off. thats doing what it should do. most mercs. have "mercury" switches. that are made to kill power to the motor if the outboard is tilted up past a certin point.
