Spinning your tires ain't the end of the world. I'm sure its happened, but I've never seen someone unable to pull there boat out...... I'm sure we are about some though.

Jim

Some FWD vehicles have an optional limited slip front differential. Check with the dealer and see if you can have one installed on your model trans. Just watch out when driving in the snow, it will be easy to spin both front tires in a turn causing you to go straight.

I feel the added traction far outweighs any negative aspects of FWD posi.

Plus you can do some really cool two tire burn-outs!

My dad used to pull a 19' '73 cruisers inc. cuddy w/ a 4x2 4 cyl. S-10(never more than 10 Mi). getting up the ramp was always entertaining & usually required 2-4 guys jumping up & down on the back bumper.

I bought a new boat in 2000 19'2" CC key west. I was just able to tow it w/ my 4 cyl nissan p/up. The third trip I got stuck at the ramp! I had to use the boat to push the truck up the ramp! Upgraded to a 4x4 V6 tacoma, I'll never get stuck again!
BTW...5 days after I bought that truck, two large deer charged the side of my truck/boat @ 55MPH. If I had the other truck I probably would have lost control of both!

I have been using a 2001 Isuzu Trooper - 3.5L, 215 HP,V-6. 19' 6" boat, about 4000lbs total.

Love it. Only concern would be with 6 cyl not sure how great it would be in the mountains.

Had a tire blow on the trailer and no problems with control while I made a very quick stop.

Problem is GM bought them out and changed everything.

You might want to try this web site http://www.trailerlife.com Don't know how good their reccomendations are, but they have a lot of info on vehicles and their towing capacities.

The GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of the vehicle is a major consideration when towing as well. That includes the weight of the vehicle, its occupants, gear, and the tonque weight of the trailer. Put six adults in that van along with a load of groceries and it will be overloaded (without the boat). And that 3500# boat probably has at least a 30 gallon gas tank which full of fuel adds 200#. Add the boating gear and weight of the trailer and you have a severely overloaded vehicle. Pulling is one thing. Stopping is another. Emergency avoidance manuevers will put you and your family (as well as others on the road) in danger. Yours is a common dilema. People buy a new vehicle and then decide to look for a boat. If you have a desire for a boat, buy one the vehicle you have can safely handle, or buy the boat you really want first and then look for a proper tow vehicle.
