I guess it comes with the territory but this current resto just seems to have more than it's share of odd problems. It also seems to have a way of creating new problems (not that I would have anything to do with that:)).

My resto thread is in my signature so lets just say that this one was/is one of those... "Darn, another problem" boats. It's cost me considerably more than anticipated and ate away at my cool stuff stash so that now it's becomming just a royal pain in the rear.

The latest, as of last night anyway, is the stator. Its a 91 mariner with a 96 16amp stator with the add-on regulator, a stock 9 amp rectifier and a stock 9 amp swithbox. Yep, almost the full kit but not quite. I had one of those gut feelings about problems with the rectifier and switch box so I just ordered everything new from CDI (via iBoats mostly).

Last night, I'm tearing it down and I when I look at the original switch box I notice that there are dummie caps on the top and bottom lugs on the input side. Then I find that the two wires out of the add-on regulator are tied together and grounded. Ater scratching my head for a minute (I'm nearly frigging bald now), I opened the manual up and sure enough that's the correct setup for a 3 cyl engine using these parts.

I had already done a spark test. 1,2,3 were good and 4 was weak. Please note that I mentioned 4 cylinders, the last guy to work on this engine seems to have overlooked that fact.

And that's just the way it's been throughout this project. I'll complete it and it will be right no matter what the cost but its not long for my ownership.

Hey, when you say "not long for your ownership", you're referring to the mariner, right? 'cause there's a whole lot of problem solver in a crate at your place somewhere.

Absolutely, but if I put that Yami on this thing, then I'll never get what I need to get out of it to even come close to break even. I still won't ever break even but I come a lot closer if the Mariner is running. I have the parts to fix it right now, I'm just waiting on the flywheel puller to arrive Tuesday.

Believe me, when I say that I've thought about it and even went as far at to make arrangements to go get the Yami and have it put on. I have to have it installed for it to meet warranty requirements.

I worked through my frustrations and took a ride up the road to look at the new North River I have my eye on and that brought me back to my senses, (more or less :)).
