I have a 85 115 Yamaha etlk 2 stroke i looked at the annode (trim tab) today and i think i am going the replace it . There is no bolt holding it on? How is it fastened the the boat? Are there other anodes inside the motor somewhere?

Re: how many anodes ?

A small snap-in-place black plastic access cover right above the trim tab to remove, down in there is the trim tab bolt. After you remove the trim tab look up in there to see an additional lower unit bolt that requires removal for dropping lower unit for water pump service. Usually a bar-shaped zinc anode on the bottom of your motor bracket, the zinc trim tab, and other internal anodes inside motor not usually replaced. Any good reason you're replacing your trim tab? Also, put some Locktite or similar thread locker on the trim tab bolt, as they have been known to vibrate loose and fall off. Good Luck!:)

Hello
Thanks for the responce. The anode (trim tab just looks a bit corroded. I dumped a lot of money into the motor recently and, well, ....in for a penny, in for a pound i suppose. The boat only sees salt water also.

It's supposed to be corroded, that's it's purpose in life...as long as it's still there, it's fine. Only maintenance might be to wire brush the corrosion oxides off of it so it can corrode more/better. Good Luck!:)

Thank you for the responce. I am thinking because it is 25 years old, it may have gotton a sort of patina on it. I will scour it up a bit. Also the powerhead was rebuilt two years ago (it was repainted also) the new paint has started to really boil off the heads, where the heads meet the cylinders.
