Einstein- "All things are relative..."

Having said that, the general rule of thumb is 1-1.2 gal per each 10hp @ WOT.

To know for sure, load the boat as normally operated, get a gps, and an auxiliary tank of any size and run it dry. With a little bit of dividing and multiplying, you will get a fair idea of how your rig performs. A six gallon auxiliary tank lashed toward the bow somewhere delivers a sense of relief that even Alka-Seltzer can give.:D

'87 Sunray Mirage express cruiser probably 5500# loaded. 350 VP w/duo prop

never run it WOT for any length of time, I can hear the gas slurping from the tank when I do

usually run 3000 RPM at about 24-25 MPH. 2.5 MPG for a range of about 140 miles and 6 1/2 hrs duration or just about 10 GPH

in metric terms that's just about 1 lt per km

I run my 19 foot Glastron with a 4.3L V6 Mercruiser and alpha 1 gen 2 outboard at around 30MPH and go through 5 gallons an hour with 2 adults and 2 kids (often towing the 2 kids behind the boat).

The guy who claims 1.5 gallons per hour has a very economical boat (or a tiny engine). I wish I could get my consumption down to 1 or 2 gallons an hour, but the 4 to 5 that she uses is what I expected.

I get an average of about 3 hrs to one 6 gallon tank on My 30 mariner, 2 hours at wot. One full tank is enough for cruising the lake fishing, I need two if I want to head out to the reefs for backup I don't always use the second one.

So you ran around at 4000 RPM for 2 hours and only put 2 gallons of gas back in the tank? Got to be pushing 20-25 MPG :confused:

I use more than that trolling with my 15 hp kicker at slighly above idle.

I just went back through my wallet and found the receipt, but it doesn't give a breakdown in gallons. I bought gas and a 20oz. mountain dew and the total price was $7.16. Like I said, I can't complain. :D

My 9.9 Merc will run all day on 3 gallons , maybe 4 if I run WOT more than usuall .
The same 12' Appleby and the 4HP Johnny will run a solid week on 6 gallons .
You just won't get anywhere quick ...:D

Boat holds 29 gallons. We usually take it out once every weekend and are actually running the engine for about an Hour or so. I usually fill it up once a month because I do not trust the guage. Engine is a 5.0 MPI and my rough calculations using a handheld GPS come out to about 4 miles per gallon on average.......

27' Sea Ray Sundancer: 7.4l mercruiser. Average about 5-6 GPH. with a mix of slow/fast cruising. 100 gal. tank = around 16 hrs. of pure enjoyment!

My 1965 MFG Niagara hull weight was listed at 600lbs, figure with '93 40hp and upgrades it weighs in at 1100lbs. WOT is 28mph, with full load, 25-26mph. Typically run at 18 - 20 mph.

It uses about 3 - 3.5 gph at moderate speeds, and on two long trips where I was able to accurately measure the distance traveled and the actual gallons used, it came out to 7mpg.

My 85 Bayliner 1600 Capri w/85hp Force uses a bit more fuel, like 6-8gph, but I have not accurately meaured fuel use yet. Running steady slow cruise it would appear to use 6 gallons an hour. But I'm not sure.

No matter how you look at it, both of those boats are fairly cheap to operate.
