I have a 1989 evinrude 25 horse that was bought not running. the PO said it ran hot and died. i did a compression test and got around 65psi on both cylinders. what i am wondering is ,can you get these engines hot enough to ruin the block ? this one got warm enough that the plastic clips that holds the wiring around the back of the head melted and burnt to a crisp. i pulled the head off and cannot see any meltdown from the top of the pistons. but the cylinder walls have turned to a really dark color and i am concerned about that.I didnt know if the cylinders could get hot enough to more or less crystalize or something to that effect.
thanks
