I can imagine buying this boat only to post about it and have folks say I got hosed. So, Ill ask first.
15' foot Key West 1995 /w a 2000 4 stroke 40hp Merc. It looks OK, but this is being judged by a complete boat novice. It is being sold by a Marine Co (Marine Supply Co in Winter Haven, FL), so I would assume, though perhaps wrongly, that they wouldnt be selling it if it was rotten or anything. The boat looked a bit dirty and had some chips of the fiberglass missing here and there, but more or less in good shape. No bimini, no electronics - trailer looked alright.
My biggest reservation is that it only has 40hp...seems that the 1520 should have 50-70 and is not a center console...Id really like a center console. Also, without help, I just dont know enough to be able to judge the true condition. My uncle knows a lot about boats, but Im reluctant to ask him to drive an hour 1 way to see it for me if Im not positive I even want it.
That said, I gave a tentative offer (made it clear I was just talking price, not commiting to buy) of $3,400 out the door and they accepted. So this is about $3,100 before taxes. The motor has been serviced supposedly before they put it on sale and they are on a lake so could drop it in and let me water test it should I decide that.
Any and all thoughts are desired. Thanks.
Btw, the boat will be used 5 to 1 fresh water.
