Been on an ---X119----Surfing at 15.5 knots------Not one of the 10 crew on board was asking for 16 knots.-----There are some fast small sailboats out there.-----U-tube might assist with videos of the boats you are considering.

The length to beam on that boat is 3.7 most of the ones on my list are under 3. But that boat is also longer. Good to know. Thanks

It will start shaking a bit and then start planing in 15 kts wind. But you said my boat, ODAY 27 and it has seen 8 kts.

I took my 1974 17' oday out yesterday and with my 2hp honda motor maybe 7/8 kts.
ZERO without the motor since there was no wind whatsoever.
Going again tomorrow since there is supposed to be some wind.

I have heard the O'day Daysailer is a planning hull?
Not many of these boats are truly planning hulls, if any, but light enough to become semi-planing with a decent wind.

If you want to go fast in that size range, get a Hobie Cat.

Semi-planning and semi-displacement the same thing?

We had our Capri 14 up to about 10kts probably a few times. But we typically didn't feel like sailing that boat as hard as it could go. According to the data it'll get up around 15kts.

Many monohull sailboats ( high tech / carbon ) can sail at speeds well over 25 knots.----Check / google the performance of a boat called ----comanche-----600 nautical miles in a 24 hr period.
