I am about to buy a rebuilt 1992 Johnson 40hp. I understand it has oil injection. I never owned an injected motor before, so I am wondering if I need to buy a special oil tank and lines like the gas tank.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

If the 40 hp is still equipped with its original vro pump and the oil inlet has not been plugged off and the vro alarm wiring is still connected you will need to have the original style oil reservoir, primer bulb, and hose that connects to the oil nipple on the engine. If you are not familiar with the hookup and priming procedure,I would recommend that you get some direction from your local John/Rude dealer as to the hookup and priming procedure.

I found that it was much cheaper to replace the fuel pump and get rid of the VRO. I don't mind pre-mixing and didn't have a place for the oil tank in my boat anyway.
I have read mixed opinions that the oil fitting can be capped off without causing problems, a mechanic at the dealer told me it would make an annoying noise.
