2000 Reinell 180 With the steering locked up solid.
In another thread, I described my difficulties, removing steering cable from the steering actuator. Ended up cutting the cable leaving a section inside the actuator and it is corroded in place mostly.
I’m going to take the actuator out and bring it home to try to fix this problem, the actuator has zero leaks, at this point, I am assuming that the lubrication on the cable inside the actuator dried up and it corroded, locking it up solid.
Once I get the old cable out, can I clean up that bore of the actuator without tearing it apart, perhaps with someone fine grit abrasive tape on a small shaft?
Does the steering cable pull a valve back-and-forth inside the actuator to tell which way to move the steering ram? Does it do this just by the dragging affect of the steering cable going through the actuator?
Thanks for the help.
Rich.
