I have a Grady White Marlin 300 it is a 1995 model. I have been advised that the hull is in rough shape and needs to be wet sanded. I have no idea how to begin. What type and grit sand paper do I buy? How do I start the process?

The grit of sand paper you use will all depend on how bad the finish looks. Can you post a couple pics? Wet sanding is usually only done to restore a oxidized hull. What color is the hull, white?Have you tried just restore compound?

Basically, you can start with 800 grit safely, then 1000, then 1200, then 1500 if it needs it. Then mild compound and wax.

Your other option is using "film" discs on a DA sander. You can use film disks dry or wet either one. If using a DA sander be careful around corners and edges as to not burn through and I would start with 1000 if using the DA with film disks. Probably won't have to go to any more than 1200 with film disks. Then compound and wax.
