How do I tell if my 8MLHV has a charge coil.

I'm trying to help my son figure out if he can charge his battery from his 8MLHV kicker motor.

There are 4 wires coming out from under his rotor.

I've tried to find wiring diagrams, etc, but have had no luck. When I looked up parts I saw 3 coils, a charging coil, a lighting coil and a pulsifier coil. But how do I tell what is there? And what would he do to set it up? I've seen references here to adding a voltage regulator, but haven't had a lot of luck finding what one he'd need.

Can anyone point me to any wiring help for this?

Also, if you know what a reasonable output would be, that would help. He has a lot of fishing equipment so we're sure it won't keep up, but if it could help keep up, that would be nice.

Thanks in advance for any help.

generally a lighting coil is about a 5 watt output (enough to run lights). a charging coil is a much higher 50 watt output - enough to recharge the batteries after starting and running for a while.

The charge coil on Yamaha's is for charging up the CDI ignition system to fire the plugs
