After beaching my 95 Bayliner with a 3.0 liter alpha one drive, I went to back out and the drive bottomed out. I tried to raise the drive, but it would not come up. After playing with it for a bit I learned that it would only move by the traile button. Is there a way to reset the limit switches?

Figured it out...you have to raise the drive all the way up to reset one side. There are two black wire that connect to a blue nd white wire and a purple nd white wire. This is the wires for the limit switches. I disconnected one at a time until the down switch worked. Run the drive all the way down until it bottoms out. Reconnect both wires. Raise all the way back up and u r good to go.

Yea, these things don't have "reset" buttons or anything like that. Chances are your trim limit switch on the outdrive has come loose and is moving its position as you raise/lower the outdrive.

Go get a screw driver and check the trim limit switch and secure per the spec's in the maintenance manual.

Probably have a loose hinge pin in the bellhousing.

I don't think I'm crazy. The trailer button was the only button that worked after I bottomed the drive in the sand at the beach. I raised the drive all the way up while loading on the trailer. After I raised the drive all the way up I was then able to lower the drive back down, but was not able to raise it up with the trim switch only the trailer switch. I lowered the tongue on the trailer and lowered the drive all the way down until it bottomed out and suddenly the trim up switch worked.

You better also make sure your trim sending units are indexed properly, or you will never get the drive to react accordingly!

Re: How do I reset trim limit switches?

Trim was working good, but after a 120 mile drive on the trailer. I had unplug the wires again to get the drive down. I pulled the cover on the left side limit switch and did not see any issues. Coupler of questions... How do u tighten the hinge pins? Is it possible that contacts wear and sporadically Loose connection.

Possible, and quite common.
