How Do I Get Roll & Tip Finish Smooth

I'm not getting a smooth finishe at the end. I put on the 4th coat this weekend and the dried finish still has lots of teany-tiny stubble to it.

Is there something that I'm supposed to do to the final finish to make it completely smooth? Am I supposed to go over the final finish with 800 grit wet sandpaper?

What paint type are you using

I'm using Pettit EasyPoxy SemiGloss White.
The boat is under a shrinkwrap dome cover and I have a thermometer and humidistat hanging up. They read 75 - 80 degrees and 10% humidity. I also have a 1500sq.ft. dehumidifier running all the time.
I am using high-density foam roller with very high quality foam brushes to tip (Corona Badger Brush was leaving too many brush marks).
I'm using about 2/3 a cap full of Penetrol in the pan to start and then adding less than 1/4 cap full as I go along when the paint seems to drag too much.

A couple of thoughts... I assume given your attention to detail with heat and humidity you sanding between coats? You can knock off a lot of the nubs between coats with 220-400 grit or a scotch brite sanding pad (i like the latter)...

Also, I used a combination of roll n/ roll, plus roll 'n tip... I would roll out about a 4 square foot area with the wet paint - it would have some bubbles in it... Then, would take a semi-dry roller that hardly had any paint on it and I would come back over it... You don't won't to hear any kind of "sticky" sound as you are going back over it... If there are still any bubbles after that, you can take a high quality brush and light go back and forth until you smooth at all out...

The important thing is to work in small sections and be sure you come back over it before your little section starts to dry... Then, move on the next section..

I have not worked with your particular type of paint, but I think "lakelover" rolled and rolled his boat using Petit Epoxy and after an initial learning curve with the paint, his turned out quite nicely...

What would be considered a 'high quality brush'?

Check the last link in my signature. It has info on the roll n roll method and some vids. Timing, Touch and the amount of paint on the roller when you do the Re-roll has a lot to do with the final finish. There's also a distinct SOUND to the process. You'll know it when you hear it.
