how do i find what year my motor is?

just picked up a used boat and i cant find what year the evinrude 70 that came with it is how do i figure out what year it is. someone painted the motor dark blue so i cant find any numbers.

Look for ID number.Should start with E70... possibly on port(left) side of tilt/trim.

To find out the year,look around on the moter for the model #... when you find it go here,

This only goes back to 1980 and up to 2001

Once you find the model #, the year might be easy to spot. For instance a 70573 is a 1975 (third digit says that). A 70473 is a 1974.

OR if it is 1980 or newer, they have a whole different system. The model could be 70ELCUX for instance. In this case, take the two letters preceeding the last letter (CU) and use the code word INTRODUCES where I = 1, N = 2, T = 3, etc In the example CU would be C = 8, U = 7, or 1987.

D=model run or suffix
Good motor, Ive ran one for about a month now and love it.
