How do I clean a dirty motor?

I have a 25 hp 2-stroke Evinrude outboard. I ran it for a few hours this weekend, and after having some trouble I figured out that my fuel pump had detached itself at some point during the day - now my whole motor is covered in oil and gas. What is the best way to clean it up?

I use a good degreaseing soap like super clean, purple power etc, cover the electronics and carb with a plastic shopping bag spray the soap let it stand and work for about 5 min, then lightly rinse with a hose avoiding the carb & electronics wipe dry with a shop towel then spray with wd-40 or similar. wipe again

Dawn will work very well and you can obviously get that anywhere...also it is not pricey.

Like kidibass said, cover your carb & electronics!

A toothbrush with the soapy solution works great! Just be sure to replace it before the wife notices.....

I agree with all but the wd-40----Good stuff but attracts & holds "stuff" like a magnet

I like to spray all my hoses with silicone spray once a year, it will keep them soft and prevent dry rotting and cracking. works great on tires also.
