How do I check my stator?

I have a 1986 90 horse evenrude model #E90TLCDC, and it is not charging, I crimped new terminals on the battery cables, with wing nuts and lock washers, and still no change. I also tried a new battery. I want to look to the Rectifier/Regulator, but I need to know if the Stator is good before I replace the rectifier/regulator. If anyone knows a good way to check the stator that would be great. Thank you.

This would be better posted in the Evinrude/Johnson outboard section.

You ohm test it... With the battery ground disconnected.. If it is in range.. You are good to go.. Whats the range you say? That I don't remember.. I guess that's what the manual is good for..

Since the rectifier changes the AC pulses to DC voltage you should check it first. Besides it is way cheaper and tons easier to check and/or change not to mention about 20% the cost of a stator.

if the bat isn't charging but the motor runs then your reg/rec is probably the problem, was for me. 30 dollar part in my case, about the cost of a voltage meter to do the stator test. I could tell it was my reg/rec because my fishfinder wasn't reading over 13 V.
