I have a Johnson 88 SPL - was taking it out this morning, but the tilt/trim didn't work. I need to replace the motor, which means I need to take the whole tilt/trim off. I assume I need to block the motor somehow to support it, but clueless as to how to do it. I would REALLY appreciate help on this one.

Thanks.

Re: How do I block outboard when removing tilt/trim

Welcome to iboats.

It is easier to do with the motor off the boat.....that back bolt is a pita.

You have a few choices....

Suspend the motor from a motor lift or a tree using the lifting hook.

You can also tilt the motor all the way up and build supports to hold the lower unit up.

I feel the best method is removal...... 4 bolts and depending on the room you can leave the steering connected.

Everything you are working with is bulky and awkward...... your motor weighs about 300 lbs.
