how can I tell if my motor is giving me all it can. I dont whont to go threw a lot of extra work. like cleaning carbs. If it dont need it. I think it should have more low end power. If I run up the motor in gear it bogs down and dies at 2500 rpms. it is a 1981 rude 75 hp.

Howdy, Skydive.<br /><br />Your question is not clear. If your engine is running properly and propped properly it should turn about 5500rpm at full throttle under load.<br /><br />It seems that it isn't.<br /><br />Give us more info on how it misbehaves and what you have tried so far.

I think you have the answer to your question, you're not getting everything out of your motor. You're not getting but 1/2 of the reccomended RPM's out of it. Your either over propped so badly your dangerously bogging your engine down or you have some engine issues that need to be looked into, compression, fuel, spark, timing.

Admiral> What do mean by under load? Boat moving, or stopped like in the water but on the trailer? The boat will reach 5500 rpm at about 25 MPH. Boat is a 17 dep V tracker.

Howdy, Skydive.<br /><br />"Under load" means moving water. That can be on the trailer in the water but in gear or moving around on the water.<br /><br />If you are reaching 5500rpm when underway at full throttle you are getting all your engine has to give.<br /><br />You said that the engine bogs and dies at 2500rpm. Which is it? :)

Now I am really confused. On the trailer it bogs down and die at 2500 rpm. Going threw the water I have to throttle up slowly but am able to reach 5500 rpm. Last summer I tried to pull my 12 yr old on a tube but the motor would die. How can I check the compretion?

Go to an automotive parts store and purchase a compression guage (get a screw in guage Not one with a rubber tip). Do a search on this forum for COMPRESSION and read all the tips and advice. Once you get a set of readings we can go from there.<br /><br />Bob
