I have a 165hp 3.7l mercruiser. It idles fine at 700rpm. But at WOT it reaches 3500rpm. can i make it go faster? what is the max rpm's i can go?

Get yourself a lower pitched prop. Your mercruiser's maximum rpm is probably around 4500/4600. So if you're stuck at 3500 rpm all the time that is not good for your engine in the long run. Every inch of pitch you lower should get you an extra 150-200 rmp's.
For example if your current prop is a 26 in. pitch, get a prop pitched at 20 or 21 inches. This will make your engine rev at or near max rpm's and should get you more speed..I hope.

You might want to try trimming your boat at WOT. Mine will change as much as 500 rpm with a variance of up to 4 degrees of trim.

Yes to both, but first, have someone you trust operate the boat, while you inspect the linkage to the throttle plate,to make sure it opens fully.

Next, see if your tach will show you full RPM in nuetral.

Every boat can benifit from trim tabs.
The only question is whether it will benefit enough to pay for them. Luckily, this is 9 times outta 10.
