"Drag race" = lets hook a chain to anything you have and see who can drag the other one the fastest.
:D

BIL took delivery of his new tractor, a John Deere 9R 4WD. My god what a monster! 560 HP at the draw bar! Putting tires on it cost over $10,000! When I asked why his answer was, "Because they don't make anything bigger".

Of course he has a new planter coming to go with it. Sort of makes the old four row planter I remember as a kid seem a little silly.

(Yes, corn prices have been very, very good.)

Did he get the infinately variable transmission? Wait til you hear one of those run. It's strange to hear a tractor under load changing RPM.

Re: How about a "drag" race?

I worked doing construction staking, layout for large landfill projects w enormous earth moving/grading operations for several years. The Big 4wd tractors were comming of age then and I was impressed by their power. They would hook 3 giant pantype earthmovering trailors in tandem behind the big beasts and they would drag the crap out of all three cutting 3-6+" at a time and quickly filling the pans till overflowing w dirt. Then raise the blades and haul the loads 25+ mph to the fill areas. They could outperform the large, old style front/rear engine earthmovers by a large margin, moving much more earth in one pass. It was sometimes unerving having the huge, loud fast moving parade of machinery pass close by as we worked around the site. We would frequently back up a little to give us a little safety margin if working in a narrower travel path w these large machines. To see one headed right for you at speed w a cloud of dust rolling all around it was quite intimidateing:eek:

Well if he does be sure to hear it under a load this spring. It's really something to operate too!
