Re: Hotmail and Outlook Express.

WLM is a fit, form and function replacement for Outlook Express, better IMHO. I run WLM on my wife's computor running Visa. No problems with XP SP3 either.

I did finally get it set up with my friend's Hotmail Account. I had to Google the correct settings as WLM did not like the settings that came over with the HotMail setup that it copied from OE. It does seem to work ok but OE has better headers and menu bars. Why in the **ll they would call the send/receive function "sync" really 'sucks'! More changes for change sake. A typical Microsoft trait.

btw, it also takes longer to open than OE did.

Yes, you get new e-mail notifications in the system tray icon with WLM. I can't comment on the version for Windows XP.

Yeah, in XP it has a little envelope superimposed over the WLM icon when you have new mail. That Icon stays in the startup tray whenever you have WLM open. With OE the email notification only shows in start up if you have new mail. Once you open, at least one of the new emails, the Icon goes away even if OE is still open.

It is good that attached pictures do open in Windows Fax and Picture viewing without having to download the picture. That is the whole reason I set my friend up on OE in the first place. If it had not been that pictures would not connect with WFPV, I would have let him stay with the Web Based Hotmail display,

Sync applies to HTTP accounts, where the idea is that what you see in your local client reflects what is also visible on the web - incoming and outgoing messages, contacts and calendar events - and vice versa. Coming from a HTTP world, one would have to ask, send and receive what? :D:D

In OE, there was a setting for it to poll new email from your server, every so many minutes (your choice). If you had OE open, you could hit the send/receive button and it would poll immediately.
