Annodized Aluminum -- How to fake it.. Now this was weird.. I had a small piece of anodized aluminum trim and figured I'd try to save it with a little shot of Rustoleum Metalic spray. So I sanded it down and shot it. Whoa... way to phony chrome looking. So, I got to thinking.. I had this can of Moeller clear coat. I thought maybe I could shoot it with that and then scuff it down with some steal wool to flaten it. Well, I didn't have to.. The clear flatened and dulled the paint and made it look exactly like it had been anodized. Don't ask me why! Probably some odd chemical reaction. It wasn't the old Lacquer vs. Enamel trick, they were both enamel paints.
This next one really threw me. I had one last piece of carpeted tin that I needed to clean up and re-carpet. I stripped the old carpet off and then reached for the MEK to clean up the glue... Arghh empty.. I went to HD but they were out.. Arghhh again. I grabbed a can of 3M #80 spray glue and figured I could get away with it since it was just a pocket tray.
I removed the old carpet backing from the tin and shot a heavy coat of the 80 on it and I noticed that the old glue started to sag.. I waited 5 minutes and said her goes nothing. Well apparently the 80 reactivated the old glue because the carpet stuck like no 80 I've every used before.. Maybe we've been messing up trying remove all that old glue when all we needed to do was reactivate it.
