Re: Horses
This past weekend was the first one in a couple months that it hasn't rained. Rocket and I had our first laps in the round corral since he came down with WNV last year. He's out of shape so we took it slow and easy. The days are getting longer now and the weatherman said no rain for a couple weeks. I'll be out in the round corral a couple of hours everyother day.
The next 3-4 weekends we'll trailer to a local creekbed that has some soft gravel and sandunes. I'll gradually put him through his moves.
This month is the month I get him in shape and slicked out. By months end he'll be spinning and sliding. He is truely awesome.
Next month is the Red Bluff roundup where we'll participate in the annual parade through downtown Red Bluff.
http://castroequestrian.com/v-web/gallery/paskenta_04

Glenn County Sheriff's Posse will have their annual poker run and Chili cook out soon after.
Then in the middle to end of May, we'll be rounding up pairs for cuttin', brandin' and innoculating for some cattlemen freinds of mine. Early summer early in the mornings we count and check cattle for eye problems from Starthissle. We leave before sun up to get done before the temps hit 100F usaully before 10-11am. Then we have a final roundup in June to load them for higher pastures.
Except for the occational snub for a freind. Or catching a stray horse or bovine in the neighborhood. Rocket will spend the rest of the year chewing on oat hay and looking at life through his fly mask.

That's what I do these days. Work 4/10's, ride horse and play cowboy in the spring. Fish, camp and hike on the river and lakes by boat in the summer. Camp, fish, hunt the river and lakes by boat in the fall. And hike relentlessly the foothills in the winter to stay in shape.
