I bought a second hand Honda bf5 as a kicker. Put it in the garage and all the oil has leaked out of the oil pan through the weep holes in the lower unit. After searching I can’t find anyone with this problem. Hoping it an accessible seal somewhere. I pulled lower unit of and engine oil is dripping from the vertical drive shaft. Thanks

I'm not familiar with that specific motor, but I would first check the basic stuff such as the oil drain plug, make sure it has a good washer and isn't leaking. There's probably a base gasket under the powerhead that might be leaking, but unless the gasket is at the bottom of the sump it wouldn't leak completely dry through it. There's also the main shaft seal that could be leaking. If it's not the drain plug, then you might have to either send a camera up the leg of the motor, or remove the power head to get a good idea for what's leaking.

Thanks Mattfl. I think you’re right about needing to remove the power head. I believe it’s probably a shaft seal. It’s not leaking at the drain plug. I wish that was it. I appreciate your response. Cheers.
