Hi all, I had the impellor changed and my engine serviced a few years ago at a now closed down Honda dealers.....anyway it seems that they forgot to fit the gear selector rods back together when it was re-assembled.
So I ordered the long hex nut but can't seem to get the adjustment right. The prop moves as it should in neutral but the gears aren't engaging properly in reverse?
Can anybody help with the correct way to adjust the connector/rods.

The first thing I would do is to disconnect the shift cable. That will eliminate any potential issues with the cable adjustments, stiff cables, and controller issues.

Next, I would move the lower shift rod through it's reverse, neutral, and forward positions to confirm the guts are all OK. Measure (roughly) about where the lock nut is located when the lower is in neutral.

THEN connect the upper and lower shift rods, confirm that the lower is in neutral (using your measurement) when the upper is in it's neutral detent, and confirm proper action from there.

Great many thanks for the information.
I have done what you suggest and it is almost fixed!
It shifts from neutral to forward no problem back to neutral ok but then trying to go into reverse and it just won't quite engage/drop into gear. If you turn the prop by hand a little it then it drops into reverse gear.
So I am very close but not sure which way to adjust from here?

As mentioned you may have to turn the prop a little to allow the clutch dogs to engage. That's tyical of most outboards. Sounds like you are good to go....

Or disconnect the red lanyard if having one and manually rotate slowly the flyweel CW while engaging reverse...
