Honda BF115 seized from sitting

Hey all,
I just picked up a Bayliner with a 115ho Honda. Motor ran when it was parked a couple years ago. It seized up while sitting. I’ve freed up old Chevy I/O motors using some trans fluid in the cylinders. I was hoping to do the same thing with this motor.

My current plan is to soak it for awhile and see if I can work it free. If I can I’ll put my inspection camera down into the plug wells and see what the cylinder walls look like before deciding if it need to come apart. I will also see if I can get the camera into the bottom end through the oil drain maybe?

Does anyone see an issue with this type of approach wether it be using trans fluid, or maybe have a better method to free it up?

Thanks in advance!

Step #1 is to remove lower unit.---Then see if powerhead will rotate.----It need to be removed sooner or later to check impeller anyway.

I figured I’d mention that the shift lever moves freely, when In fwd or rev the prop wont turn by hand. Neutral the prop spins free as it should.

I bought a "seized" Honda 90 a couple years back. Did just that, removed the lower unit, and WALLLA!! Top end was free just like that. Lower was toast though. Full of water, not a drop of oil anywhere..... Much easier dealing with that situation.... Power heads are a PIA to replace/rebuild!

I got the lower unit off, lower unit spins free. Tried turning the crank by hand with the plugs out but no luck. Any ideas on what you uses to free it up? I stuck my inspection camera down the plug wells. Looks clean from what I can see. Will only be able to tell the damage where the rings were sitting once freed up.

Put a little oil down the cylinders and waited a bit. Put my small ratchet on the crank bolt (didn’t want to come right onto it) it turned! Went back and forth a couple times, thing turns free and smooth. I will likely pull the head for further inspection but glad to have it freed up anyways.

Just wanted to update for anyone who might have similar issues in the future. It was my starter. Thing was seized with the starter gear stuck on the flywheel ring gear with a seized starter ( boat must have partially sunk in the past ).
