Hello, Does it hurt anything to run the outboard without a thermostat temporary only? I had overheating problems and have since changed the impeller and checked the themostat, it opened at 160 degrees.

It probably won't hurt for a short time. BUT, if you don't operate at the higher tempature you will start (making oil) getting gas running past the rings and into the oil. Four strokes are really bad for that.

I'd like to know how you came up with that 160 number.Where and how did you get that number?

I put the thermostat in a pan of water with a thermometer. It begin to open at 160 F and opened at least 1/8 in. thanks
