I have a 10 year old Honda 8 hp that only runs on one cylinder when first started. You have to put it in gear and give it some gas before the second cylinder kicks in. It runs great once both cylinders are firing. I've changed the plugs and gas line filter. Any suggestions?

Welcome to iboats, Hotrod.
Are you sure it is an ignition problem?
If so, start your motor in darkness, and look for a spark arcing anyplace. If you find one, try removing and cleaning the item which is emitting the arc to ground. If you still get a jumping spark, the item may need to be actually replaced.
Let us know what u find, (Or don't find).

What did those plugs look like when you changed them out? When was the last time the valves where adjusted on this unit or any maintenance done?Fresh fuel,or rancid crap from some time ago?Any water in that fuel? That ought to give you a good start.Let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions 12Footer and hondon. The motor is about 10 - 12 years old and, other than plugs, it has not required any maintenance. I'll check for arcking and pull the plugs and let you know.
Hot Rods
