Re: Honda 225 Surging at Mid rpm's
Don't give up!!!
My 225 would run to 4500 and then fall to idle - and try to get back to 4500. I found my water separator to be rusted out - my bad. I replaced it with no improvement. I found that the separator fixture had rust on the surface that mates with the gasket on the new separator element. I replaced it. Still no improvement. I found air in the bulbs on the forward, starboard side of the motor - bubbles!!! I replaced the pickup in the tank - still bubbles. I replaced all hoses - still bubbles. I pulled a line from the tank to a primer bulb to a bucket of gas. I created a siphon and found no bubbles. Hmmmm. I then connected the same fixture to the outfeed of the water separator below deck. Bubbles!!!! 3/4 turn with a strap wrench and the bubbles stopped. I connected all hoses back to the motor. I open the VST valve and drained it out - yes, you might have to suck on it to get it going. Yes, your wife will not like your breath! Keep the VST open and keep pumping the bulb until you have NO BUBBLES!!!! Once done, close VST and run the boat hard. TADAAAA - it is fixed.
This is not a fix for clogged filters or bad pumps. But, it is the least expensive path to a fix.
Good luck and good fishing!!
