Hey guys. Just bought an 03 Sanger DLX. At this point I am new to this style of boat. Have had many older family styl eboats and finally stepped up to a competition ski boat. I have a question though. My steering is really tough. At first I thought it was just the style of boat (Direct Drive) that I have never had before. But last weekend had a chance to rip around in my buddies Sport Nautique and it turned like butter, so now I am concerned I may have some sort of an issue. Any body know what I am talking about or if there is a fitting in need of lube or something? I appreciate any advice you can offer. Here is a pic of my new ride.

Keith

Nice ride, Keith. Which motor do you have, the 5.7 330 hp or the 6.2 with 340 hp? just curious.

In regards to your steering, I don't believe there is anyplace to lubricate the cable. Could be time to replace it. It should steer very easily. Did you get any type of warranty? Might be able to haggle with the dealer/seller. I'm not as familiar with the inboards since I don't own one. They are the current towboats, though.

Nice to see another Sanger owner on the board! :)

Re: Hola! New Sanger owner

Thanks, glad to find a board with a Sanger specific area, even if it is slow ;) I have the 315 rated Mercruiser 350. Very happy with it bone stock. So I talked with a Sanger dealer today and he said I am cable steering. e thinks I have to replace my steering cable. He couldnt tell me if I had a greasable fitting or not, but guesses my 03 model year does not. He said take the rear seat and stuff out and find the cable underneath to see if it has a grease fitting. $500+ if I have him change it

Changing the steering cable shouldn't be that big of a deal. I'd call the Sanger factory and see what they would charge you for just the cable and decide if you want to attempt installing it yourself. They should also be able to tell you if ther's a grease fitting, but I doubt that there is.

Just use an online phone directory and search for sanger boats in Fresno, CA. Ask for the parts dept.
