Are they any good? I want my trailer to sit back farther from my truck ( shallow ramps ) and wanted to know if these will support any kind of weight. Boat weighs 2300 when ready to go to lake.

Re: Hitch Extenders

Never used one before, Nate. As long as it is rated for the weight you are towing it should be OK from a safety standpoint. It will make the suspension on your tow vwhicle work harder, though. I have a bike rack that you can tow with (the ball ends up about 16-18" behind where it would be on my receiver insert) and using it makes my truck squat a lot more. Ride comfort is not as good either. Also you will probably need some safety chain extensions and a trailer wiring extension.

Re: Hitch Extenders

The hitch extenders that you show are very limited in their capacity. Your boat is more than likely too heavy for that extension as the capacity is cut anywhere from 1/2 to 1/3 depending on the length.

The ones that Roscoe has shown are new to me and look like they would work. But I cannot see weight limits anywhere on their site but I did note that you cannot tow with it at all. It is intended only for launching so this may be what you are looking for.

You other option would be the "Superhitch" by Torklift. This is what I need to haul my 25 footer with the camper on the truck.
http://www.torklift.com/super_hitch.htm

The Reese hitch extender that I have pictured is rated for 400-tongue 4000-cap.

Re: Hitch Extenders

Nate, I agree that the hitches you show are capable of hauling your boat. However, you will have an unpleasant trip out of it because of reasons already stated by sanger.

roscoe's linked extender is awesome. Obviously you couldn't use it on the road, but it looks like plenty for the ramp. I'm guessing those permanent extensions aren't that much less costly than roscoe's.
